Tegan and Sara is a Canadian indie band composed of identical twin sisters Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin. Both sisters are openly gay songwriters and musicians that have made their live shows infamous for their on-stage banter, including stories and commentary on childhood, politics and life on the road. Tegan and Sara have been immersed in many collaborations and have played on the Lilith Fair tour. Sara has commented about the slow evolution and involvement of women in the music industry: “Look at Lady Gaga and Beyonce. There are lots of really fantastic women selling records, but a good majority aren’t going to be asked to do festivals like Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza. I mean, we still play festivals with no other women on the bill.” Tegan and Sara have been a powerful musical force with a strong base of fans that they keep connected to, personally and through social media. The duo is not afraid to bring up identity, politics and gender in their art. -CD
